California: Are the Windfarms at San Gorgonio Pass “Green”?

Inspired by the Video “Wind Mill Disaster”

The video “Wind Mill Disaster”  is a visual critique of the Windfarms in San Gorgonio Pass, Riverside County. This is one of the windiest places in Southern California and also one of the state’s largest wind sitings. It is not clear whether “NewWiseGuy”  made this video, or just posted it. The addition of Kermit the Frog singing “Its not easy Being Green” softens the harsh impact of scenes reminiscent of a battlefield.

Wind Turbine Catches Fire in Campo

A wind turbine exploded on the Campo Indian Reservation, in San Diego’s East County, around noon on December 16. Flames spread to the surrounding bush. Two bombers that responded to the emergency were hampered by high winds. The situation might have got out of control, had a helicopter not arrived. Dianne Jacob On Renewable Projects In East County

There has been a great deal of talk about little places like Campo, Boulevard and Ocotillo ever since construction began on the Sunrise Powerlink.  There have been multiple lawsuits as environmentalists, Native Americans and other East County residents have fought to protect their habitat, ancestral lands and homes from the encroaching pace of “development.” As much of this area lies within the East County District represented by County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, I sought her perspective about what is going on.

San Diego’s Wind Energy Ordinance Moves Forward

The Board of Supervisors were unanimous in regard to to the changes affecting small wind turbine development, but East County Supervisor Dianne Jacob said the large turbine ordinance forced changes to her district that were “very wrong.” She was out voted, 4-1.
