Eight Days To Comment on Delta’s Proposed LNG Terminal

Screen-shot-2014-03-18-at-3.43.47-PM1 The National Energy Board has already granted an export license, to US based WesPac Midstream, for a facility that could bring up to 120 LNG tankers and 90 LNG barges into the Fraser River every year.  The public’s opportunity to make their concerns known ends June 11. There are only eight days to comment on Delta’s proposed LNG terminal (WesPack Tilbury Marine Jetty).

Container Ship Adrift Off Haida Gwaii

Paul Penderghast, from the Canadian Forces’ Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria says, there are still approximately seven meter waves, but the vessel is holding its position 9 miles offshore. The “Simushir’s” injured captain was evacuated off by helicopter. Ten crew members remain. Some fear the vessel will run aground, spilling some of the 560 metric of tonnes of bunker and diesel fuel onto the coast. The Haida Nation has issued a press release stating their “worst fears are coming true.” There is a 135-metre long Russian container ship adrift off Haida Gwaii.

Crown Failed to involve First Nations in the Decision Making Process

Screen-shot-2014-03-18-at-3.43.47-PMThe Haisla, Gitxaala, Haida, Heiltsuk, Kitasoo/Xaixais, Nadleh Whut’en and Nak’azdli peoples have all sought leave from the Federal Court of Appeal to challenge the Canadian Government’s decision to conditionally approve the Enbridge Northern Gateway tankers and pipeline project. They allege the Crown failed to involve First Nations in the decision making process for the Northern Gateway pipeline decision.
